India Lockdown 5.0 Highlights:  Highest spike of 7,466 new COVID-19 cases and 175 deaths in the last 24 hours has been reported in the country. Total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 1,65,799 including 89,987 active cases, 71,105 cured/discharged/migrated. The death toll has now reached 4,706, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in its latest update on Friday Data by America’s Johns Hopkins University showed that India has overtaken China in terms of deaths related to Coronavirus and is now placed ninth in the world in the list of the most-affected nations.  Meanwhile, the Centre has been discussing with state governments the possibility of extending the lockdown as coronavirus cases in India have crossed 1.65 lakh-mark.



Cabinet secretary held video conference with state governments and administrations in Union Territories to discuss the scenario after May 30 – the day when lockdown 4 is scheduled to end. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also held key meetings with chief ministers to seek suggestions over lockdown and present COVID 19-related scenario in the country. Meanwhile, a sharp rise in coronavirus cases has been reported in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, Ahmedabad. Haryana has ordered sealing of its borders with the national capital.

Around the world, a total of over 58.08 lakh people have been infected by the coronavirus and over 3.60 lakh people have died. US, UK, Brazil, Russia, Italy, Spain are the worst-effected countries in the world, as per details shared by the Johns Hopkins University and Medicine Coronvirus Resource Center.
